Scan of Teaching of Piano Certificate earned from Fullerton College- Spring 2007
I have taken the opportunity to design this page for viewers of my portfolio, and also teachers who are interested in any ideas, links, and information included on the page. Most content was taken from my journal material from "Teaching of Piano I & II" classes at Fullerton College. If you have suggestions please feel free to e-mail me with your ideas. Thank you. |

*Lecture/Presentation
The ongoing debate of whether or not music performers need to learn music theory is addressed thoroughly in my theory lecture/presentation.
In support of my theory book, I have organized lectures/presentations on the importance of the private music instructor having a background in music theory and teaching it effectively to adult students. Concepts can also be modified for younger students. Below are key points discussed in the lecture which also include a packet handout.
-
Importance of knowing music theory for teacher and student
-
Minimum theory requirements teachers should know
-
How to handle students that are reluctant to learn music theory
-
Teaching music theory to adults vs. children
-
Sample theory test
-
Importance of teaching different ways to accommodate students who learn differently
-
Selected pieces that teach/demonstrate specific theory concepts
-
Motivating theory game ideas
